Progress Report for CPSC 525—Image Understanding II

چکیده
The topic covered in this project is face detection in a single image, which means no temporal information can be utilized from consecutive frames in a video. The task of face detection in a single image is to detect the existence of human face in an arbitrary image and show the location if faces exist. This is nontrivial because there are several challenges associated with it. As many other object recognition tasks, it suffers from the light conditions, image contrast and camera qualities. It also suffers from the occlusion due to other objects or the camera-face poses. There are also unique challenges for face detection. For instance, human face is a general object whose appearance has many variations. Extracting a general pattern among different faces and difference facial expressions is quite difficult. Extensive research has already been done to explore many different approaches to solve those problems for this task.

A Study on Blur Kernel Estimation from Blurred and Noisy Image Pairs
The course can be split in two parts. In the implementation part, the kernel estimation process as described in [1] has been studied. The algorithm has been tested against synthetic and real data; and its performance has been discussed. In the reading part, a number of papers have been covered from the list of papers discussed in the graduate level course CPSC 505 “Image Understanding – I: Imag...
متن کاملSegmentation of Handprinted Letter Strings Using a Dynamic Programming Algorithm
Segmentation of handwritten input into individual characters is a crucial step in many connected handwriting recognition systems. This paper describes a segmentation algorithm for letters in Roman alphabets, curved pre-stroke cut (CPSC) segmentation. The CPSC algorithm evaluates large set of curved cuts through the image of the input string using dynamic programming and selects a small “optimal...
متن کاملArnold-Chiari Type II Malformation: A Case Report and Review of Prenatal Sonographic Findings
The Arnold-Chiari malformation is a congenital abnormality of CNS, characterized by downward displacement the parts of the cerebellum, fourth ventricle, pons and medulla oblongata into the spinal canal. This malformation is one of causative factor of death in neonates and infants. A thorough understanding of the direct and indirect sonographic findings is necessary for diagnosis of Chiari II ma...
متن کاملGastrointestinal injuries from magnet ingestion in children--United States, 2003-2006.
Ingestion of nonfood objects, inadvertently or intentionally, is common among young children and also occurs with older children and adolescents. Unless the objects are large or sharp, they usually pass through a child's digestive system without health consequences. However, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has become aware of toy products containing small, powerful rare-earth magn...
